On the road... to Viridian City!

Hey guys! Just an update about things and stuff and what's going on, plus summer plans.  Since, y'know, school's out!

Had my jury, and it was... well, not as solid as my last few, but it happened, and there was good moments.  I mostly survived, there was only one crucial screw-up that I remember now, about two weeks later.  I was playing the Böhme concerto, which is quite acrobatic compared to my usual repertoire choices, which don't move quite as fast (even the Halsey Stevens, my unofficial "signature" piece, doesn't quite require the finesse Böhme does), but I got the brunt of it.

So, my big news of the day... I got into grad school!  Next year, I'll be finally leaving Pallet Town, going to school at Viridian City U, which is actually on the opposite coast, though I picked nicknames that are right next to each other (Viridian just made the most sense to me).  I'll be honest, I had substantially more rejections than acceptances, but I'm hoping that I can turn this into something that works out well for me.

I guess my biggest fear is that, since so few places accept me now, what happens when I look for work, and the competition is even MORE fierce?  Well... I guess I'll just have to take my usual route, and improve faster than everyone else here.  Most of the people at Pallet Town U now weren't around when I was a freshman, so they don't realize just how bad I was.

Not saying I'm good now, by a long shot.  I've kind of adopted a thing where I refuse to call myself competent at ALL, just because... I've realized comparing myself to students isn't going to help in the long run.  I have to compare myself to professionals.  Call it cause for insanity, because as soon as I do that, my comparative level PLUMMETS, but... I'll be honest, in a few years, students will be the least of my concerns.  Might as well hit myself in the face with reality now.  And as Lucca said, it's when met with seemingly impossible odds that people improve the most.

And how much more impossible can it be when people exist in this world with the power to do this?

But yeah.  So now that summer's starting again, that means two things: Festival, and community orchestras.  Got my first gig with a community orchestra in two weeks, doing Beethoven's Choral Fantasy.  First rehearsal's tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be fine.  And Ramona and Starfish are doing it, too! :D Sorry Starfish, you just got landed with the GIRLIEST name on the planet, which is exceptionally hilarious considering the stereotype for male horn players in this region, which he's one of the few that doesn't fit.

Also, Firebird and McBoss and I are totally doing the Poulenc trio.  I can't remember if there's a good recording on YouTube, but there's one by Olaf Schipper and some other folks on iTunes that's worth a listen.  Through a series of accidental tangents, we've stumbled across the temporary name of "Wubtrio."

I kind of hope it sticks.

And that's all, folks!  I might do another nerdy rant in the next week or so, or I might just go straight into another music-related one.  Let's just see where the wind takes us.
